CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL IRONBARK STUDENTS
Posted on Wed 20th of December at 12:28 pm
On Monday, our Ironbark students were very excited to welcome Ian — a local beekeeper to talk to them all about bees and honey. Our students were excellent listeners and got a chance to look at some of the equipment a beekeeper uses. Our students also had an opportunity to learn about the different roles a bee has and the importance of bees in our local ecosystems. It was a great opportunity for our students to learn about bees and why we need to look after these very important creatures. Here are some Australian Honeybee facts….

It’s been a busy few weeks in the Ironbark Neighbourhood. We are learning all about animals and the environment around us. Very soon we will be putting up some nesting boxes around the school. We will be learning about the different animals that might use our nesting boxes. If you see a nesting box, please just look at it and don’t try to touch or disturb it as we really want our local wildlife to call these boxes home. Next week we have a bee expert coming to our school to talk about the importance of bees to our ecosystem. In maths we have been learning about Measurement and taking part in rotations. All students will get a chance to learn more about volume, capacity, area, perimeter and mass throughout the next 3-4 weeks. In Music, our students are practising our unit item for the upcoming Celebration Night. In PE, our students have been participating in the Bike Ed program run by Mr Colley. It is great to see everyone trying their hardest and learning to follow road rules as part of Bike Education. It was fantastic to see a HUGE number of Ironbark students receiving Premiers Reading Challenge certificates. Remember to keep your certificates in a safe place at home. Don’t forget to wear your sunsmart school hat every day when you’re outside as the weather is going to start to heat up!

On Monday, Grade 3 students travelled by bus down to Golden Square oval to participate in a hockey clinic. We got to meet with the Women’s Kookaburras and Men’s Hockey Roos team who are playing here in Bendigo against other international Hockey Teams. We were even lucky enough to get some autographs from some of the famous players.

Grade 3 students had a great time on our Scienceworks excursion. After an almost 2 hour bust trip, we were excited to explore around the museum where we had a look into the future. The Sports Works part of the museum seemed to be a big hit with the students where they were able to race against Cathy Freeman.

Within music the Ironbark neighbourhood have been exploring music notes and the way they fit in sheet music. Students are loving using the note knacks to create short music pieces using all types of instruments. The Boom Whackers are a new instrument in our school but are already proving to be very popular with all students. We are also enjoying our very comfortable new cushions.
